Preventing and Managing Behavior Problems in the Classroom
Welcome to The Teaching Zone, a website dedicated to the continuing professional development of classroom teachers and administrators.
The Teaching Zone focuses primarily on the area of Behavior Management in the Classroom. Specific teaching and instructional strategies that facillitate behavior management are discussed and demonstrated in each series of modules that we offer. All modules for educators offer continuing professional education credit (see below). Modules also include numerous downloadable classroom specific informal assessment forms, checklists, strategy forms, planning forms, note-taking guides, classroom environment forms, rules and procedures forms, etc.
Our online training modules provide information about evidence-based practices in classroom management, inclusion, teaching students who exhibit chronic behavioral challenges, and other topics that will be added in coming months. Each module series addresses topics that are critical to successful teaching. Surveys of teachers and administrators consistently reveal that educators typically feel underprepared for the demands of classroom management, and for working with students who have disabilities and special needs in the areas of behavior and learning.
We also offer a specialized curriculum for Alternative Certification Programs, Educational Service Centers as well as a targeted series of modules for Parents that can be utilized at home to support classroom efforts as well as to manage children's behavior problems at home.

Online Professional DevelopmentThe Teaching Zone offers educators a series of researched-based professional development modules focusing on prevention and management of behavior problems in the classroom. Each module is designed to be approximately one hour in length, and will run similar to a slide show presentation on your computer. Each module contains activities to help you apply the skills and concepts being presented; you may progress through each module at your own pace using the on-screen navigation buttons. Completion of each module will earn one hour of continuing professional education (CPE) credit for Texas educators; credit calculations for educators from other states will vary from state to state. All modules have been created and developed by Brenda K. Scheuermann, Ph.D. She is an approved provider of the Texas State Board for Educator Certification (provider #500365). Dr. Scheuermann also provides the narration for each module presentation.
Although The Teaching Zone is based in Texas, educators from around the country may also receive continuing professional educational credit according to the criteria listed for each state by the U.S. Department of Education e-learning certificate website. Every state has specific local requirements, which the content of each module should satisfy.
After completing a module, you will be able to download and print out your certifcate documenting your continuing education credit. Since documentation requirements and credit calculations vary from state to state, you should check with your state department of education for your state's requirements regarding CPE calculation and documentation.
The state of Texas requirements are listed on this website; the certificate provided at the completion of each module will meet documentation requirements for Texas. School districts, educational cooperatives, and individual school campuses may purchase a site license for their staff to view the modules. Individuals may also purchase a one-time viewing of each module.
